Firstly I just want people to know this is 100% my thoughts as every blog i post is. But I thought I had better just clearly state that here.
Recently there has been a lot of talk about changes that need to happen to the NDIS. For those of you who may live outside of Australia the NDIS is a government scheme or policy that has been established in Australia for 15yrs now. Unfortunately the costings of the NDIS has significantly blown out from original estimations largely having very little to do with a lot of the participates who rely heavily on the NDIS to support their quality of life.
My personal thoughts on the changes are, I hope the decision makers move slowly with all these changes. I urge everyone to move slowly through all the changes that may be implemented. Think about the unforeseen ripples and effects that will undoubtably occur with every decision. While I am all for removing the dodgy people or finding those that abuse systems to profit from them I think it is important to remember that these decisions will have a huge impact on some of our most vulnerable people.
Life is is hard enough for severely disabled people. There’s constant pain, there’s social struggles. There’s usually financial struggles, There’s more struggles that anyone could possible imagine unless you are actually living with a severe disability. There is usually great uncertainty in every single aspect of life. The last thing disable people need is living with uncertainty over access to support workers or support services that can literally be the difference between life and death.
Imagine fighting whatever health issues you have and struggling just to stay alive, Now you have the added stresses and pressures of is budgets going to be slashed to critical support services each year that directly relate to your quality of life?
It’s just another thing disabled people and their families now have to worry about.
I hope everyone keeps the needs of those usually with the quietest voices at the centre of their minds when making all these decisions that feel like an inevitability.
